This was a great show! The opener, Illinois, was pretty good, and the Kooks sounded amazing!! They played all my favorite songs!!

The really cool thing about the show is that they had some sort of deal going with FYE where if you bought their new cd, the 2-disc special edition of their new cd, or the vinyl version of it, you would get a wrist band and could meet them after the show!
I already had their album, but not the 2-disc version, so I bought that and I ended up getting to meet them!!!! I got them to sign my cd and said hi to them, but they didn't have time for everyone to take pictures with them...All in all, it was a great night!!

British Sea Power @ Black Cat -- Thursday, May 8, 2008
This past Thursday I went to see the British band British Sea Power at the Black Cat in Washington, DC. I went as a part of the DC Area Britpop Meetup, even though only 2 of us actually came to the show (me & Jeremy).
The two openers weren't exactly my style. The first opener's songs weren't exactly my style, but he accompanied some of them with hand-drawn comics illustrating what he said, and that was rather amusing.
The second opener was the Rosebuds (I think that's what they're called), and they weren't too bad. They were playing much louder than they needed to, especially the bass section on the keyboards. Their songs weren't bad, but all the instruments were jumbled together so much that I couldn't really appreciate them. I prefer songs that have more "breathing room" in them, if that makes any sense whatsoever.
After that, British Sea Power came on. I had heard good things about them so I bought their cd and a ticket to their show, but I hadn't listened to the cd as much as I wanted to by the day of the show. So I wasn't sure exactly what to expect, but they were GREAT! They played really well and the songs sounded even better live than they did on the cd ("Do You Like Rock Music?"). They brought some foliage out and put it up all over the stage (attached to amps, mics, etc), which was awesome. I'm pretty sure they pilfered it from some local park. Unfortunately, in order to make sure I could reclaim my (aka Jonathan's) car from the parking garage, I had to leave before the last 1 or 2 songs. While I was still there, though, I was front row center, so I got some great pictures!

The Fun Fun Times for Me!!
So after the fiasco that was the Foals concert, this past weekend actually turned out to be pretty fun.
Thursday night, as evidenced by my last few posts, was the SSLYBY show, which was a lot of fun.
Friday was mostly spent hanging out around the house. I got Jonathan's car washed, and then we all piled in the van to go pick him up from BWI. After getting slightly lost, we went out to Il Porto, which is one of my favorite restaurants that we hadn't been to in a while.
Saturday we celebrated my Mom's birthday by going to the Textile Museum in Washington, DC. It was actually pretty fun. They had an exhibit about Indigo and how it is used as a dye, and they had lots of cool textiles hanging up. They also had a trunk show going on with lots of cool quilts w/modern designs on them.
After that we got some bubble tea and some fried ice cream (delicious!) and then walked along Embassy Row/Mass. Ave until about 5pm. All of the embassies and residences were beautiful/interesting and it was beautiful outside: good weather, lots of trees, etc.
After that we went out to dinner at India Palace, where we bumped into Ms. Amberg, of all people! She was me & Jonathan's compsci teacher in High School, and she's rediculously nice. We both hadn't seen or talked to her in years, so it was nice to catch up.
Then Jonathan went into DC to hang out with some of his friends, so my parents and I watched some Doctor Who (Season 3, Ep 1) . . . they're a little behind, but I couldn't resist watching it with them.
Sunday I just hung out around the house and then went to the Seder at my church at around 6:30. We're not Jewish (we're Episcopalian), but since my dad grew up Jewish, we've been known to do a passover seder at our church. We hadn't had one in several years, though, so it was really fun, especially since Jonathan was there. The only problem was that I'm trying not to eat very much meat anymore, and the only other thing they had there was salad (which I hate) and bread (which I ate). The plethora of desserts more than made up for the lack of diversity in the main course, however.
After that, Jonathan went to Baltimore to meet up with some friends and my parents and I watched another episode of Doctor Who (Season 4, Episode 2 -- The Shakespeare Code). That episode is quite fun for me b/c not only do I love Shakespeare, I also love Harry Potter, which they mention 3x. Its making me want to reread the 7th book b/c I've only read it once, the day it came out. I've just been so bummed about HP being over that I haven't been able to make myself read it again, even though deep down I want to...*sigh*. I brought it with me to work today, just in case.
So today I'm doing day shift, which hasn't been too busy, and then I'm going to have dinner with my family b/c today is my Mom's birthday. Then I'm driving Jonathan to Arlington to meet up w/some of his coworkers before a conference that they're going to starting tomorrow. After that I'm probably going to watch this past Saturday's episdoe of Doctor Who, which I am rather looking forward to!
Tomorrow night I'm seeing Teitur @ Jammin' Java and Thursday is HANSON!!!!
More to come when I think of something interesting to say :O)

Someone Still Loves You, Boris Yeltsin
So the SSLYBY gig @ the Black Cat in DC last night, was AMAZING!! And so much fun. They played all of my favorite songs from the new CD, Pershing, as well as some old ones. As always, Phil was my favorite, b/c hes just adorable...I got some pictures/videos that I'll put up soon, but in the meantime, I suggest buying their music.
The opener was a band called Via Audio, and they were pretty good as well. I bought their cd, but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.

I Might Actually Start Using This Blog!!
I keep meaning to use this blog, but never actually doing it!! The lack of business at work today and the fact that my iPod ran down has finally driven me to it!!
So last night was a huge fiasco... I was supposed to go into DC to see a British band called Foals @ Rock & Roll Hotel. I already wasn't that much in the mood for it, but I decided to go anyway cuz I had already payed $12 for the ticket. So anyway, I'm not sure if googleMaps was wrong or if I'm just stupid, but I couldn't find the place once I parked, and I was afraid that I would get towed from where I parked, and then this really creepy guy started hitting on me/asking me for money. So since I was feeling so stressed/frazzled/unsafe I decided to just go back home. Of course thats easier than it sounds b/c for some reason it was practically impossible to find my way OUT of DC, and then there was traffic for the 2 miles I was on the beltway. And to top it all off, there was a dead goose on the exit ramp to 118 & I almost ran over a bunny when I was parking near my house. So needless to say, I'm a bit frazzled.
Anyway, today should be a lot better. It should be a pretty relaxed day at work because there aren't many shows this week or next week. Plus, tonight I'm going to see Someone Still Loves You, Boris Yeltsin, and they're great.
I'll probably post more later during a lull!!
